Healthcare Technology Product Manager
Medsphere® is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and seasoned product management technologist to join our team as a Healthcare Technology Product Manager. This position reports to the Executive Vice President for Product and is responsible for strategic and tactical support of OpenVista® electronic health record interoperability, security and technical product life cycle from idea to delivery, including interoperability with internal and third party systems. The Healthcare Technology Product Manager helps build integrated products from existing technologies, and also helps develop new ideas based on industry experience, interoperability standards and contact with customers and prospects.
This position requires the development of an interoperability strategy and product vision and the drive to make that vision a reality within the OpenVista EHR. Elements that will drive strategy in this area include a strong knowledge of HIPAA requirements, security needs associated with healthcare clinical roles and data security needs in multi-facility inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
Responsibilities range from identifying customer and industry needs to formulating these needs into business solutions and high level product integration requirements; providing ongoing pre-sale and post-sale support; and managing product requirements, launch and rollout.
The main goals of this position are to:
- Identify and drive interoperability standardization to position Medsphere applications seamlessly in the inpatient and outpatient enterprise
- Ensure successful incorporation of new products into the existing Medsphere product line
- Ensure successful/efficient deployment and complete launch of products into the marketplace
The Healthcare Technology Product Manager will work closely with executive management, engineering, project management, quality assurance, customers and other product managers to facilitate and drive the product roadmap and whole product definition. Close work with engineering on requirements definitions to drive streamlined workflow and innovation will be important. This position will serve as the internal and external evangelist for product offerings.
Principle Duties
- Conduct market research through industry standard and trade groups, prospects, federal initiatives, customers and competitors
- Champion the company on HIPAA requirements and drive strategies for compliance
- Define requirements surrounding product security and patient data access in an integrated delivery network setting
- Collaborate with the Product Marketing team to define product positioning and key benefits, and to target customers
- Collaborate with the Product Development team to drive detailed product integration features and direction
- Determine market requirements based on competitive analysis and customer / prospect feedback, and develop high-level product specifications
- Provide prioritized input to developers for new features, enhancements and fixes for existing product interfaces
- Drive standardization and interoperability requirements across all high-acuity application suites
- Research and recommend pricing strategies for products and services
- Interact with prospects and customers to gather feedback on products and to promote the benefits of integration in support of sales efforts
- Assist Medsphere in commercializing the VA’s VistA programs
- Conduct customer pilots, oversee product roll out, and guide marketing communication to create materials that promote the products and support sales efforts
- Travel to customer and non-customer sites (20 percent of time)
Qualifications
Education/Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Familiarity with hospital business, information technology and clinical processes
- Experience with integration standards and interoperability initiatives in healthcare
- HL7, federal initiatives and other technical integration experience
- Understanding of HIPAA regulation
- Understanding of security models associated with multi-facility clinical settings
- Understanding of clinical and cross department workflow in healthcare settings
- Minimum 5 years‘ experience in the role of product manager for a healthcare software vendor preferred
- Experience in a hospital as an information technology director preferred
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) preferred

- Exceptionally strong project management and organizational skills
- Experience launching new products into an established product line and managing the new products throughout the lifecycle
- Demonstrable understanding of analysis and documentation skills; ability to gather, write and communicate detailed requirements
- Must enjoy spending time in the market to understand customer problems and identify innovative solutions
- Understanding of security models associated with multi-facility clinical settings
- Understanding of clinical and cross department workflow in healthcare settings
