Medsphere and Nexera Align to Offer OpenVista® Electronic Health Record Solution to GNYHA Member Hospitals

ALISO VIEJO, California, August 29, 2006 - Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading commercial provider of open source-based electronic health record (EHR) systems and services, announced an agreement with Nexera, Inc., a for-profit consulting subsidiary of GNYHA Ventures, Inc. to collaboratively offer, implement, and deploy Medsphere's OpenVista® EHR platform to Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) hospital members under preferred terms and at a discounted price.

OpenVista is a commercial implementation of the open source VistA EHR system developed by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, used in all VA facilities, and credited with helping turn the VA into a national leader in quality patient care. Using the core VistA functionality with enhancements designed to meet the needs of non-VA healthcare providers, the OpenVista platform offers a proven and affordable EHR solution without the expensive license fees associated with proprietary products.

"Electronic health record systems are widely regarded as a promising means of improving patient care and controlling costs, and all signs are clearly pointing to a push for EHR adoption both through the Federal and private initiatives," said Christopher O'Connor, FACHE, President, Nexera. "This agreement therefore adds an important offering to our portfolio that fits with our mission of equipping hospitals with the tools they need to deliver quality care."

"Nexera is strongly committed to helping hospitals maintain quality care and has a solid understanding of the value of EHR systems in areas ranging from reduced medication errors to 24x7 clinician access to the patient record," said Frank Pecaitis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Medsphere Systems. "By selecting our OpenVista platform for consideration by the GNYHA members, Nexera promises to play an important role in bringing the benefits of this product to patients in New York and surrounding states."

OpenVista consists of an integrated suite of clinical and administrative modules that can be deployed across acute, ambulatory, and long term care environments, enabling information sharing that helps maximize clinical performance, reduce costs, and improve health care outcomes. Modules cover the full range of patient care functions including patient information management, health information management, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, mental health, nutrition and food service, and a robust clinical information system complete with clinical documentation, computerized provider order entry, and clinical reminders.
