Medsphere Expands Management Team To Support Growing Market Interest in OpenVista® Electronic Health Record System
ALISO VIEJO, California, October 30, 2006 - Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading commercial provider of open source-based electronic health record (EHR) systems and services, today announced the appointment of three new executives to support increasing market traction for its OpenVista EHR platform. Joining the company are Russell F. ("Rusty") Lewis as Senior Vice President for Engineering and Development and Chief Technology Officer; Denean K. Rivera as Senior Vice President for Client Services and Strategic Partnerships; and Kathy Doub-English as Vice President for Product Management.
"This expansion of our management team gives us the needed depth and breadth of experience to really accelerate the company's growth," said Dr. Kenneth W. Kizer, Chairman and CEO of Medsphere Systems. "The ability to attract such experienced, top industry talent clearly demonstrates the appeal of OpenVista's professional open source delivery model," he added.
Lewis has held CTO and other top engineering and executive positions with HBOC/McKesson, Bridge Medical, AmerisourceBergen and other healthcare information technology companies since 1992, including serving as president of both Bridge Medical and AmerisourceBergen Technology Group. He previously worked in software research at Texas Instruments. He will oversee ongoing OpenVista enhancements and help establish the overall product development strategy.
Rivera has served as COO/VP of Field Operations and most recently as president of Bridge Medical, a provider of barcode scanning technology designed to prevent medical errors at the point of care. She formerly held executive positions with eMD and HBOC/McKesson. Her responsibilities at Medsphere include professional services, training and client support as well as establishment of strategic alliances with companies that complement Medsphere's services.
Doub-English is a registered nurse who has spent the last decade heading product marketing and management at Picis, Inc., a manufacturer of high acuity care delivery automation for emergency, perioperative and critical care departments. She previously served in multiple product, medical sales and nurse consultant capacities at Compucare and Support Systems International, and worked as an RN from 1983 to 1988 focused on acute care and oncology. At Medsphere she is responsible for market analysis and shaping the product road map.
The new executives join Mike Shannahan, Chief Financial Officer, and Frank Pecaitis, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, on the management team.
Medsphere's OpenVista platform is based on the open source VistA EHR system developed by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, used in all VA facilities, and credited with helping turn the VA into a national leader in quality patient care. Medsphere has enhanced VistA to meet the needs of non-VA healthcare providers and added professional services, ongoing product development, and 24x7 technical support, providing the safety of a professional open source delivery model without expensive proprietary license fees.
