FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Midland Memorial Hospital to Speak about Deployment of Medsphere's OpenVista Electronic Health Record at HIMSS Conference
First Successful Commercial Deployment of VistA-Based EHR
ALISO VIEJO, California, February 20, 2007 - David Whiles, Director of Information Systems at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas, will be speaking at the HIMSS 2007 conference in New Orleans next week about the hospital's experience with the VistA-based OpenVista® electronic health record (EHR) from Medsphere Systems Corporation.
The presentation, "First Successful Commercial Deployment of VistA-based EHR," will cover the recent implementation of OpenVista at Midland's 320-bed, not-for-profit, two-campus facility, its impact on clinical performance and healthcare outcomes, and the cost advantages the hospital realized in using Medsphere's professional open source model of software distribution.
OpenVista is a commercial implementation of the highly regarded VistA EHR system developed by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Medsphere has made a variety of enhancements to the VistA source code, available in the public domain, to enable non-VA providers to take advantage of the VA's 20 years of development. Midland Memorial deployed OpenVista under commercial license to receive Medsphere's professional services, training, ongoing product upgrades, and 24x7 technical support.
Whiles' presentation is scheduled from 3:15-4 pm on Monday, February 26. More information is available at http://www.himss07.org/exhibition/PavilionSessions.aspx. Medsphere will be exhibiting in Booth 2369 at the Ernst N. Morial Convention Center.
