Medsphere Showcases Open Source Edition of OpenVista® EHR at 15th VistA Community Meeting

New Demo Appliance, Community Edition Updates Covered in Presentations

SEATTLE, Washington, June 15, 2007 - Medsphere Systems Corporation today unveiled a new pre-configured demonstration system making it easy for healthcare providers and developers to evaluate the community edition of its OpenVista® electronic health record (EHR) platform. The new OpenVista Demo Appliance as well as the latest upgrades to OpenVista CIS CE, the community edition of the client-side clinical information system, were discussed in presentations by Medsphere personnel at the 15th VistA Community Meeting in Seattle.

OpenVista is a commercial implementation of the highly regarded VistA EHR system developed by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Medsphere released the OpenVista source code earlier this year in separate server- and client-side community editions to assist the open source VistA community as well as accelerate EHR adoptions by providing a low-cost VistA-based alternative with opportunities for collaborative development. To date, OpenVista Server CE and OpenVista CIS CE have been downloaded more than 1,000 times from SourceForge.net.

The new OpenVista Demo Appliance simplifies the process of installing, configuring and running OpenVista Server and OpenVista CIS by providing a turnkey reference system that can be downloaded to the PC and run via VMWare for easy evaluation. The appliance includes a complete open source technology stack and can be downloaded at http://www.medsphere.org.

Medsphere has also released two updates to the community edition of OpenVista CIS since it was made available in late February. Together, the two new versions include 364 enhancements and fixes.

OpenVista's community editions include commercial enhancements made to the public domain VistA source code by Medsphere developers to adapt the software to the needs of non-VA facilities, modernize the graphical user interface, and extend the lifecycle of the VistA system.

OpenVista Server CE includes the database, business logic, and significant terminology and workflow changes to the VistA platform to support non-VA users. OpenVista CIS CE for Windows and Linux includes Medsphere's enhanced graphical front end for the VistA clinical information system.

OpenVista is also available under a commercial license as part of Medsphere's commercial open source business model. Commercial users receive professional services, training, ongoing product upgrades, and 24x7 technical support from Medsphere.
