Community hospital CIOs share insights, best practices for acquiring a comprehensive health IT solution paid for in total with federal stimulus funds
Carlsbad, CA —An upcoming one-hour Webinar sponsored by Medsphere Systems Corporation and produced by healthsystemsCIO.com will present the case for open source electronic health record platforms as a viable option to more expensive proprietary solutions. The May 10 event will feature a conversation among Anthony Guerra, Editor-in-Chief for healthsystemCIO.com, and CIOs from two community hospitals that have gone the open source route and met federal Meaningful Use requirements.
Joining Guerra on May 10 will be Bill Fawns, CIO of Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California, and Lior Blik, former CIO of New Jersey’s Hoboken University Medical Center. Both hospitals have qualified for Stage One of Meaningful Use and received millions of dollars in reimbursement from the federal government.
“Healthcare IT executives will tell you that it's not just the initial investment in most healthcare IT systems that make ROI questionable—it’s the unforeseen charges to make even slight changes to the system,” said Edmund Billings, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Medsphere Systems Corporation. “Bill and Lior have direct experience with this challenging scenario, but also with the more flexible open source path and significant associated savings. Their experience should prove highly informative for those hospital CIOs that have yet to make the EHR decision.”
The webinar will be held from 1 – 2 PM Eastern Daylight Time (10 – 11 a.m. Pacific) on May 10.
