DevOps Systems Administrator – Healthcare

Medsphere’s CareVue EHR provides comprehensive clinical support in acute care and inpatient behavioral health settings, enabling better patient care and lower costs for community hospitals, inpatient behavioral health facilities and physician practices. 

The DevOps Systems Administrator is responsible for implementing, supporting, and configuring the CareVue enterprise EHR system. You will focus on operations: designing, developing, and installing software solutions; supporting and managing technical tasks for the implementation and clinical support teams in both on-premise and enterprise cloud deployments. 

As a DevOps Systems Administrator at Medsphere, you’ll get to: 

  • Serve on the System Admin support team and guide new clients through CareVue system set up, configuration, integrated testing, go-live, and transition to the global support team
  • Be fully accountable for meeting customer support service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Be responsible for implementations meeting functional and technical specifications
  • Serve as an account specialist leading the discussion of support issues on account management calls with customers
  • Acquire appropriate information from the customer concerning issues; document issues in the support customer relationship management tracking database
  • Work collaboratively and effectively on team projects while demonstrating the ability to complete technical tasks on time and on target with minimal guidance   
  • Resolve customer issues using proven troubleshooting techniques 
  • Provide customer with the resolution of issue(s) and obtain closure
  • Write specifications that document the implementation approach or configuration guide to streamline the resolution of support issues across team members
  • Make and meet commitments for deliverables in terms of scope and schedule
  • Articulate technical directions and interact with other development groups 
  • Refer policy issues to the Lead Support Analyst for clarification and/or escalation to management 
  • Continually improve product functionality and technical configuration by introducing tools, methodologies and ideas from professional journals and business periodicals


  • Be aware of policies, practices, issues, priorities, and concerns for internal and external customers
  • Utilize industry standard best practice methodologies for implementation, including incorporation of business and clinical workflow processes
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and appropriately with a wide range of audiences 
  • Possess limited knowledge of the overall CareVue system, including operating systems and software applications (VPN, ADTFiler, HL7, Kernel, FileMan, CPRS, Lab, Pharmacy, Radiology, Imaging, Dietetics, etc.). 
  • Establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision 
  • Handle and resolve recurring problems
  • Switch gears when more pressing issues come up; juggle multiple calls and projects simultaneously 
  • Have basic knowledge of Linux and Windows system admin functions and package distribution 
  • Possess software release organizational skills 
  • Have experience with the following:
    • FileMan data retrieval 
    • MUMPS programs
    • Error Trap troubleshooting 
    • GT.M 
    • Java programming language 
    • Data Innovations and Pyxis

Ideal Background and Expertise

  • Expertise in a team-structured environment with effective communication skills
  • Understanding of GT.M, Cache and MUMPS
  • Experience with MIRTH and HL7 
  • Expertise in one or more of the following, with a strong command of the others: client architecture, web services, operating system or networking, server architecture, browser interfaces
  • Experience in the healthcare services industry
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities; creative problem solving, resourcefulness, ability to help others solve problems
  • Ability to plan and lead team projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Proficiency in design as measured by extensibility and scalability  
  • Time management skills to align with project timelines
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across all segments of the organization

The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience with the following:

  • Medsphere CareVue and/or VistA EHRs 
  • Linux systems administration, preferably RHEL/CentOS
  • Microsoft Windows Server systems administration

The ideal candidate will also have 3 or more years of experience with the following:

  • Enterprise-wide large-scale systems deployment 
  • Healthcare IT

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to provide services during off-work hours
