Meeting both inpatient and ambulatory Meaningful Use requirements, OpenVista ensures Medsphere clients receive maximum federal reimbursement for EHR use.
Carlsbad, CA —Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading provider of affordable and interoperable healthcare information technology (IT) solutions and services, today announced that OpenVista CareVue, the company’s comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) platform, has met 2015 Edition certification requirements established by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT. With this recognition from the ONC, Medsphere enables clients to receive every dime of federal Meaningful Use funds available to them and ensures no future diminution of Medicare and Medicaid funds based on lack of compliance with federal healthcare IT regulations.
Medsphere worked with the Drummond Group to achieve full (acute and ambulatory) certification, which is posted on the ONC’s healthit.gov web site. Certification puts CareVue on a short list of solutions that have met a high percentage of 2015 Edition criteria.
“The ONC set exacting standards for this third stage of Meaningful Use, and I’m tremendously proud of the Medsphere team that made it a reality,” said Medsphere President and CEO Irv Lichtenwald. “The 2015 Edition of CareVue maximizes reimbursement by preparing hospitals to advance to Stage 3 Meaningful Use and enabling eligible clinicians to earn Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) bonus points. Our behavioral health customers will also benefit from the many new features in this version of CareVue, despite being ineligible for federal reimbursement. These CareVue enhancements embody our commitment to interoperability, to sending and receiving patient data in standard formats and to improving efficiency and patient safety.”
Beyond Medsphere’s community and inpatient behavioral health hospital customers, certified CareVue could also deliver the potential for much needed funding to Indian Health Service (IHS) hospitals and clinics through federal Meaningful Use reimbursement.
Previous Meaningful Use certification stages confirmed that CareVue includes functionality related to CPOE for medications, laboratory and imaging tests, e-prescribing, negative drug interaction checks, clinical decision support, vitals, problem lists, a patient portal and similar requirements. With 2015 Edition certification, CareVue expanded the e-prescribing module and added interfaces for public health reporting and to third-party applications and devices, data export capabilities, application programming interfaces (APIs), clinical quality measures, and patient specific education materials.
Certification is only the most recent in a series of significant events at Medsphere. Last month, Medsphere merged with Stockell Health Systems and added extensive revenue cycle functionality to the overall OpenVista platform. In June of last year Medsphere merged with ambulatory healthcare IT solutions provider ChartLogic. In the spring of 2015 the company joined forces with Phoenix Health Systems, which according to recent surveys conducted by Black Book Research, is the top-rated, non-EHR centric hospital IT outsourcing company.
